In this regard, Imam Abdessalam Yassine, the founder of the movement, states:</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana;color:#006600; text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref1"></a><a href="#_edn1" title=""><b>[1]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>  Calling people to God is our occupation. <span class=GramE>Calling people to God comes</span> through education, reminding of God, of His glad tidings and warnings in the Hereafter, through kind preaching, teaching, persuasion, and exhortation.&quot;</span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: .25in;text-align:justify;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:130%;'> <span style='font-size:10.0pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Symbol;'><span style='font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span><span dir=LTR><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>That seeks to be among those by whom God will renew the <span class=SpellE><i>d+n</i></span> of the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span>. In the <span class=SpellE><i>hadith</i></span> reported by Abu <span class=SpellE>Hurayra</span> (God be pleased with him), the Prophet (God bless him and grant him peace) said:</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana;color:#006600; text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref2"></a><a href="#_edn2" title=""><b>[2]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>  God will send to this <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span> in the beginning of each century someone who will renew its <span class=SpellE><i>d+n</i></span> [that is, Islam as <span class=GramE><i>islam</i></span>, <span class=SpellE><i>imn</i></span> and <span class=SpellE><i>ihsn</i></span>]. </span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: .25in;text-align:justify;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:130%;'> <span style='font-size:10.0pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Symbol;'><span style='font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span><span dir=LTR><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>That advocates spiritual education and calls people to return to God in repentance. We take as a starting point the idea that our <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span> is sapped by an illness called <span class=SpellE><i>fitna</i></span> [disorder]-a concept used by the Prophet to name the trials and tribulations that will befall his <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span>. Hence the urgent need for extensive medication and profound rehabilitation. We find in the <span class=SpellE>Qur n</span> the following principle:</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana;color:#006600; text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref3"></a><a href="#_edn3" title=""><b>[3]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>  Verily never will God change the condition of a people until they change the condition of their egos. That implies that we must make an accurate diagnosis of our condition and prepare the appropriate remedy to reassemble our ranks and purify our hearts. The Prophet (God bless him and grant him peace) said:</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%; font-family:Verdana;color:#006600;text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref4"></a><a href="#_edn4" title=""><b>[4]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>  <span class=SpellE><i>Imn</i></span> [faith that generates moral rectitude] wears out in the heart like clothes; do renew, then, your <span class=SpellE><i>imn</i></span>. In another <span class=SpellE><i>hadith</i></span>, he said:</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%; font-family:Verdana;color:#006600;text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref5"></a><a href="#_edn5" title=""><b>[5]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>  Renew your <span class=SpellE><i>imn</i></span>. They asked:  how shall we renew it? He replied:  Utter the statement <i>la <span class=SpellE>ilha</span> <span class=SpellE>illa</span> Allah</i>  there is no god but God as frequently as you can. This testimony, if uttered and then lived with heartfelt presence, is the basis of any renewal of <span class=SpellE><i>imn</i></span>, any real spiritual education and any genuine repentance. </span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: .25in;text-align:justify;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:130%;'> <span style='font-size:10.0pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Symbol;'><span style='font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></span><span dir=LTR><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>That is interested in the commonweal of the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span>. Indeed, political action forms an integral part of our thinking and action. God-Almighty is He-speaks</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%; font-family:Verdana;color:#006600;text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref6"></a><a href="#_edn6" title=""><b>[6]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'> eulogistically of  those who, if <span class=GramE>We</span> establish in the land, perform the Regular Prayer and give the Regular Charity, enjoin the praiseworthy and forbid the blameworthy. Verily with God rests the end (and decision) of all affairs.&quot; Thus, working for the social, political or economic welfare of the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span> goes hand in hand with establishing the Regular Prayer and all the other acts of worship-collective or individual. However, we would like to make clear that political action, the founding of a political party or the running for elections and power are only part-not the first and foremost-of our concerns.</span></p> <p><font class="ArticleSubTitle">Our Objectives</font></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>Our movement cannot content itself with a sociopolitical objective lesser than <i>al- Adl</i> [Justice] advocated by the Islamic Law, <span class=GramE>nor with a spiritual goal lower than <i>al-<span class=SpellE>Ihsn</span></i> [Spirituality].</span> <span class=SpellE>Ibn</span> <span class=SpellE>Mas kd</span>, a Companion of the Prophet (God bless him and grant him peace), said</span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana;color:#006600; text-decoration:none;'><a name="_ednref7"></a><a href="#_edn7" title=""><b>[7]</b></a></span><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'> that the most comprehensive verse in the <span class=SpellE>Qur n</span> is located in Chapter 16 [ The Bees ]:  God ordains <i>al- Adl</i> and <i>al-<span class=SpellE>Ihsn</span></i>. </span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>These two concepts are the main objectives regarding the spiritual and the temporal, the affairs of the Call and of the State, our political destiny in this world and our spiritual destiny in the Hereafter. Both objectives, which are our motto in the political world, take their original nobility from the <span class=SpellE>Qur n</span> and draw their realism from our indignation against the opulent class that despoils the Moroccan people of their rights.</span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><b><i><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>Al- Adl</span></i><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'> [Justice]</span></b><span style='font-size:9.5pt;line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'> is the quintessence of Islam, the mission of the Messengers of God, and one of the major temporal concerns of Muslims. In the absence of this pillar of  <span class=SpellE><i>Umran</i></span> [civilization of Islamic fraternity whose populating of earth harmonizes material prosperity with a spiritual flight towards God], our action will not be worthwhile, constructive, and will be a bad, futile deed in the light of the <span class=SpellE>Qur n</span>.</span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>As to <b><i>al-<span class=SpellE>Ihsn</span></i> [Spirituality]</b>, it is the guarantor of our quietude during our progress towards God and our attempts to cope with the appalling realities of our society. It immunizes us against resorting to any violent, subversive solutions.</span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>The term <i>al-<span class=SpellE>Ihsn</span></i> bears three meanings: at the level of ritual adoration, it is to worship God as if we could see Him, for if we do not see Him, He indeed sees us; at the practical level, it is to carry out any task with excellence; at the social level, it is to treat others in the best of ways. All these acceptations represent the virtues of the Believer in his relationship with his Creator, his fellow human beings, and nature. </span></p> <p><font class="ArticleSubTitle">Our Means of Action</font></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:3.0pt;margin-left:0in; text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><b> <span lang=FR style='font-size:10.0pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Wingdings;'></span><span style='font-size:7.0pt;line-height:130%'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></b> <font class="ArticleSubTitle">Forming an organization</font> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>The first step is to get organized into an Islamic movement whose members are addressed by the <span class=SpellE>Qur nic</span> call:  O you, who believe! , and whose task is to make change [change the condition of the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span> from secular disorder <i> <span class=SpellE>fitna</span> </i> to Islamic order]. It is a matter of working within an elite of change-forming an integral part of the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span>-that braves the sociopolitical obstacles standing in the way of the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i> s</span> unity and prosperity in this world, and that rushes at the summits of moral, spiritual excellence to earn God s eternal satisfaction and nearness in the Hereafter.&nbsp; For even if Muslims had the most pious of hearts and performed the most righteous of deeds, but individually and not within an organized movement, they will have missed the rank of a mujahid for the sake of God. That will have serious repercussions on the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i> s</span> present and future. The condition of the latter will be perceived and felt in the scattered efforts, disparate wills. </span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:3.0pt;margin-left:0in; text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><b> <span lang=FR style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Wingdings;'></span><span style='font-size:7.0pt;line-height:130%'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></b> <font class="ArticleSubTitle">Understanding Islam as a Whole</font> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>Our means of action is the Call to God [<span class=SpellE><i>da wa</i></span>] according to a clear educational and political method that brings together our missionary vocation and our political action, justice and spirituality, the temporal and the eternal, the salvation of the individual and the deliverance of the entire <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span>.&nbsp; </span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:3.0pt;margin-left:0in; text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><b> <span lang=FR style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Wingdings;'></span><span style='font-size:7.0pt;line-height:130%'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></b> <font class="ArticleSubTitle">Educating</font> </p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>The divine law of change is based on spiritual education which is the prelude, the condition, and the pillar of our jihad. Only a complete, comprehensive, and profound education could render man an influential protagonist of history.  The primacies of real change are: acquiring the basics of education, renewing <span class=SpellE><i>imn</i></span> and awakening aspiration to <span class=SpellE><i>ihsn</i></span>; in the second position of importance come the maturation of the militant action, the implementation of <span class=SpellE><i>shkra</i></span><i> </i>[deliberative consultation] in the management of the movement's internal affairs, the multiplication of efforts to get all the committed Islamic movements to agree on a common project, the need for extensive knowledge of politics, the realities on the ground, the need for forming provisional alliances and their conditions (& ) All those scientific, moral, material, and media tools are complementary and indispensable. Far be it from us to look <span class=GramE>for the</span> safest shortcuts nor the surest means in the short run to assume power and establish an Islamic government. We emphatically decline any path that stands at variance with the Prophet s Method as far as the means and the objectives are concerned. What interests us the most is to discover the Prophet s Method regarding change, namely through such original education of human beings that produced the illustrious, matchless Companions-eminent models for the <span class=SpellE><i>umma</i></span> and the elite of humanity after the Prophets (blessed be they).</span></p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:3.0pt;margin-left:0in; text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><b> <span lang=FR style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Wingdings;'></span><span style='font-size:7.0pt;line-height:130%'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></b> <font class="ArticleSubTitle">Rejecting Violence</font> </p> <p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:12.0pt;margin-left: 0in;text-align:justify;line-height:130%'><span style='font-size:9.5pt; line-height:130%;font-family:Verdana'>We proscribe verbal and physical violence because we strongly believe that this evil deed is totally incompatible with the spirit of the Call of man to God.
