Imam Abdessalam Yassine is the founder of the School of the Method (Madrasat
as-Sulūk al-Minhāji), whose project is to reunify the Muslim world in light
of the practical model of the Prophet (God bless him and grant him peace) and in
fulfillment of the promise of the Last Messenger, who informed of the advent of
a second Caliphate according to the Method of the Prophets.
The Imam’s project is elaborated in detail in more than thirty
topselling books, as well as in many lectures, articles, and letters. His
project expounds an authentic-yet-modern practical method of educating,
training, and organizing Muslim activists in order to work for the
reconstruction of the shattered edifice of the Muslim community around the
world. That is obviously not the ultimate goal since the Muslim community around
the world has been depository of the ultimate Divine Message -the Last
Testament- which it is enjoined to transmit to the whole world through exemplary
behavior, earning thus God’s grace and favor in the Hereafter and the
incomparable bliss of contemplating His Face for eternity.
The fundamentals of the Imam’s revivalist, societal project may be
summed up in the following:
¨ The method of change is to be progressive,
flexible, and indulgent.
¨ It needs a theoretical background so as to
be efficient in practice.
¨ Violence and underground activity are to be
condemned vehemently and avoided at all costs. As the adage has it: “Kindness
succeeds where violence will fail.”
¨ Islam is not the exclusive property of
Arabs. Its Message must thus be transmitted to the whole world in the most
appropriate, lenient, attractive, and peaceful manner.
¨ To make change, the Muslim man and woman
should start with themselves, purifying their hearts and souls from evil
intentions and sentiments, educating their minds through drawing inspiration
from the perfect model of the Prophet Muhammad (God bless him and grant him
peace)-a model of mercy, peace, human respect, equality, and fraternity.
In short, the aim of the project is to establish justice in society and
spirituality in the hearts of its citizens. Al-‘Adl and al-Ihsān
(Justice and Spirituality) mean at once peace with the Creator and all the
creatures, moral rectitude and integrity, spiritual transcendence, social
justice, economic prosperity, political stability, and decent life for all human
beings-brothers and sisters in faith or in humanity.
